    Two questions about one sentence

    Dear friends,

I would highly appreciate your help with the following sentence:

"The main source of proteases contributing to protein hydrolysis to amino-acids are microorganisms."

Q1) Is it OK that the noun "source" is singular and the verb "are" (microorganisms) is plural, or do I have to change it somehow?

Q2) Does "contributing" in my sentence refer to "proteases" (which it should), or to "source" (in that case I would have to rephrase the sentence).

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Two questions about one sentence

    1. The source is. It's an awkward verb choice, but it is correct. Perhaps better would be to start "microorganisms are the main source of..."
    2. Yes, I read it as the proteases are contributing.
