Hello everybody!

In my opinion, there is something fishy about the whole sentence, especially about the fragment in question.

To my way of thinking, the sentence should read as follows:

Mechant Shipping Notice ...... lists the requirements for Category C vessels which lifeboats and life rafts they are required to carry and is shown in table 1.

or

Mechant Shipping Notice ...... lists the requirements for Category C vessels which lifeboats and life rafts are required to be carried and is shown in table 1. (I do not think this makes sense).

Vessels carry lifeboats and life rafts, don't they?

Do you think I am right?

Thank you.

It's impossible to say without more relevant context.

There is too much to read through in order to find the relevant section.

I am not a teacher.

Why don't you at least quote the original sentence?

Here is the rest of the context.

The first aid outfit provided in every lifeboat, rescue boat, inflated boat or liferaft shall comply with the following requirements:

- it must comply with the implemented UK requirements of Council Directive 92/29/EEC which sets out minimum standards for ships' medical stores by introducing the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessel (Medical Stores) Regulations 1995, as amended by the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessel (Medical Stores) Amendment Regulations 1996. Mechant Shipping Notice MSN 1707 (M+F) lists the requirements for Category C vessels which lifeboats and life rafts are required to carry and is shown in table 1.

On second thoughts, I think I was wrong and the sentence in bold could be modified as follows:

There is a list of requirements for Category C vessels in Merchant Shipping Notice MSN 1707 (M+F), and lifeboats and life rafts lists are required to/should carry the requirements and the list is shown in table 1.

Merchant Shipping Notices, Marine Guidance Notes and Marine Information ... https://books.google.pl/books?id=Ci... Notice ...... lists the requirements&f=false

Page 98

Requirements are usually met, satisfied, not carrried. Besides, the table below does not mention that Category C vessels have to carry lifeboats and life rafts.

I may be wrong, but the text is a little twisted.

Is my interpretation in post 6 right? "Which" applies to both the requirements and life rafts and lifeboats and the meaning is that the life rafts and lifeboats carry or meet the requirements. I would be grateful for a reply.

This seems to be about the "medical stores" which lifeboats have to carry.

Category C vessels have to carry certain first aid items in their lifeboats and life rafts.

I think the sentence is in error because it says the lifeboats are required to carry requirements.
