They asked us this in high school placement exam today.

And I picked C

But they told that true answer is D

From that view which is better answer ?

I don't like any of them, but D is at least grammatical. C is not grammatical.

What does answer seems if we look to the meaning.

I thought the C is more compatible with that sentence but if you say so...

C is incorrect because of the word "has".

"Before she died, she won several awards" would have been correct.

C has the wrong verb tense. C would work with "had won" and even with just "won".

Even these days a whole bunch of English textbooks offered to high school students in my country are full of errors. I just can't stand working with textbooks by non-native speakers. To be honest, the only answer that sounds reasonable here is D.

D is the least worst option. It doesn't make for a particularly natural pair of sentences IMO, but it is, at least, grammatically possible.
