    Imported by sea

    Dear teachers

In the following sentence, should I write "food imported by sea" or "food imports by sea"? Please advise.

The government said it may tighten up inspection of food imported by sea after reports that radioactive produce from Japan may have passed through the customs.

    Regards

    Holden

    Re: Imported by sea

Both sound equally natural to me. But I would add that it is illogical to restrict the scrutiny to foods that arrive be sea. If food is dangerous, it is dangerous regardless of whether it arrives by sea, by air or overland.

    Re: Imported by sea

It makes sense if inspections of food imported by sea has previously been less thorough than that of food arriving by other methods.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Delete 'the' before 'customs'.
