    information be required

    Hi,

Does the phrase below make any sense? If so could anyone please simplify it for me?

All of the companies that responded by post provided contact details should any further information be required and 8 firms were subsequently contacted for additional information.

    Thanks

    Re: information be required

It would be better as two sentences. "All of the companies that responded by post provided contact details should any further information be required. Eight firms were subsequently contacted for additional information."
This means that all of the companies concerned provided contact details in case anyone needed further information. Subsequently, eight of those firms were contacted by people requesting further information.

I think the original sentence would work better if, '…should any further information be required…' were removed from it.

'All of the companies that responded by post provided contact details, and 8 firms were subsequently contacted for additional information.'

    Re: information be required

It depends on whether they were asked to give their contact details only if they required further information. If that's the case, then the original is fine if split into two sentences as bhaisahab suggested. If they were all asked for their contact details anyway, then Roman55's briefer alteration is acceptable.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
