    Re: turn gnat into camels

Somebody has asked it in a group of English teachers and lecturers in Telegram. She has not provided any context for that unfortunately. She has read it in a literary text about hypocrisy.

    Re: turn gnat into camels

    It's a Biblical allusion.

    http://biblehub.com/matthew/23-24.htm

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.24You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
Jesus is saying that they do all of the little things with fine detail (gnats, tithing) but ignore the more important larger things (camels, doing justice and mercy).

Exactly what the writer of the sentence you asked about was trying to say is not clear.
