    wherher......whether

    Hello,

    *self-made*

1- I would like to ask if I can stay here or I should/can come with you.
2- I would like to ask if I can stay here or if I should/can come with you.

3- I would like to ask whether I can stay here or I should/can come with you.
4- I would like to ask whether I can stay here or whether I should/can come with you.

I know they may seem weird to a native speaker but yet I would like to ask if I should say again 'if' and 'whether' in those sentences or not. Which ones are grammatically OK?

    Thank you!

    Re: wherher......whether

I would like to ask whether I can stay here or should I go with you.

I tried saying these out loud a few different ways. I know that the indirect question makes "whether I can stay here" necessary - but the "should I go" sounds more natural to my ear than "I should go."

As a direct question, it would be "Can I stay here or should I go with you?"

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: wherher......whether

As they're written, they require the second 'if' or 'whether'.
