Present Perfect: Can someone please explain the reasoning behind the answers?

    Hi all

I am really stumped by these. Could someone please explain the reasoning behind the answers? (and why the alternatives are "wrong"?) - Thanks!

Question: Select the sentence containing an example of the present perfect tense (correct answer: B)

    A. If God had wanted me otherwise, he would have created me otherwise. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

    B. If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants. (Isaac Newton)

Question: Select the first verb in the present perfect tense (correct answer: have guided)

Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. (Martin Luther King Jr)

We have guided missiles and misguided men.
"Guided" is not a verb in this sentence. It is an adjective. "Guided missiles" are a type of weapon.

In the first one, "had" makes it past perfect, not present perfect.

In the second one, the given answer is wrong.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
