    NOUN FORMATION

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if you could unfold a mystery of noun formation. Are there any spelling rules apply to it?
    - al
Propose = proposal survive = survival - do we always lose e at the end and change it into - a ?

Happy = happiness - do we always change - y at the end and change it into - i, if we make any changes to a word - like study - studies?
Are there any more spelling rules for noun formation?

    thank you in advance
