    ago vs before

    She came in and told us that she had arrived 5 day (ago\before).

    I am not a teacher.


    I don't like either one.


    She could have said, 'I arrived five days ago' or, 'I arrived five days before (something/someone else)'.


    But, because of the use of the past perfect, 'She came in and told us that she had arrived five days earlier'.
