Is the meaning of the two sentenses the same?

    1. Please charge the first night as the cancellation penalty for 2 rooms that she booked and refund the other nights.
    2. Please charge the first night of each rooms and refund the other nights.

Is the meaning of the two sentenses the same?

If I have reserved 2 rooms in a hotel for a period of 5 nights (price: $500/room/night) and want to cancel the reservation now, how much I have to pay according to the meaning of the two sentences? Should I pay $500 or $1,000?

    Please help! Thanks!

Re: Is the meaning of the two sentenses the same?

Though it is not stated in the first sentence, it is understood that the first night stay in the two rooms is charged if there is a cancellation (presumably late cancellation). You booked two rooms so it follows that the 'first night stay' means first night stay in the two rooms and not just in one room. It is a standard policy for hotel room booking that a room is charged for the first night stay when cancellation is made less than 2 to 3 days before the check-in date.

In 2, it should be for each room. Expect to pay $1,000.
