use of THEN instead of THAN

More and more I see people using THEN instead of THAN
Example: The new model is bigger THEN the old one.
I find this shocking, but would like to make sure.
    Is this correct?

Re: use of THEN instead of THAN

    Welcome to the forum.

No. It is completely incorrect. It has been a common error for years. It doesn't matter how many times it's repeated - it will continue to be wrong.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Welcome. (For future posts, you can just click the thank button.)
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Re: use of THEN instead of THAN

Another similar error is to use could of seen instead of could have seen. In both cases the words sound similar, but they are still mistakes.

Re: use of THEN instead of THAN

The same error is found in "would of", "could of", "should of", "might of".
The general thinking is that people hear "would've/could've/should've/might've" and assume that the second syllable is "of", not a contraction of "have".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
