Text analysis

What is gained by text analysis? Perfect words, perfect sentences perfect what? Didn't some one somewhere say that no one person is perfect including writers? Paul

Some people find it fun.
I am not one of them.
I couldn't care less about the grammar of a sentence as long as it conveys the meaning I want it to and my reader does not have to work hard to understand that meaning. If I can be humorous or thought-provoking, so much the better.

That does not mean I don't want to write grammatically; I would lose credibility if I did not. But to say "Oh, that's a dependent clause containing two adverbial phrases, etc." -- I just don't care.

I think I love you because you and I are on the same page. We just want to be understood, faults and all. My fault is being accepted and not rejected by this forum just be patience and understand we even as writers can make mistakes. Excellent thread. Paul

There are several definitions of 'text analysis'. I guess you mean parsing - grammatical analysis. The analysis of a text, eg. a novel, is a large part of what an English teacher (not an ESL teacher) does. Most texts that we deal with don't require much analysis though.
