    as well as Paul

    Are these sentences correct:

    1) I gave the book to John, as well as the notebook.

    2) I gave the message to John, as well as to Paul.

    3) I gave the message to John, as well as Paul.

'2' and '3 are supposed to mean the same.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: as well as Paul

    For 1) say:

I gave the book to John, and I gave him the notebook as well.

    For 2) or 3) say:

I gave the message to John, and I gave it to Paul as well.

If you want me to tell you why you should do it that way, that will cost you extra.

1 Why not just say the book and the notebook?

That is certainly a possibility. However, perhaps your boss said: "Give this book to John."
Then you say: "What about the notebook?"
He says: "That's up to you." Later, he asks you if you gave the book to John, and you say: "Yes, I gave him the book and the notebook as well."
