What does "the business scene" indicate?

I want to talk about the business of a certain country, and I've heard the term 'scene' being used in similar cases. For example, the business scene in Japan is quite impressive.

    Is that understandable?

What else can be said to refer to the field of business in a certain country?

I would prefer "the (private) business sector."
