    Could you not

    Could you not smoke?
    Could you not shout?

    Can you not smoke?
    Can you not shout?

    Are these correct, please?

    Many thanks.

    Re: Could you not

    Yes, they are correct.

You will also hear "Would you not X" as well. That version is probably a little more common, but there is nothing wrong with your choices either.

Also, these are usually accompanied by 'please' to make them more polite. The word 'please' has some flexibility where it appears, as I've indicated below.

    Could you please not smoke?
    Could you not smoke, please?
    Please, could you not smoke?

    Re: Could you not

Exactly! "Please" was missing and it sounded wrong to me!
    Sound right this way:

    Could you, please, not smoke?

    Many thanks

    Re: Could you not

If you're putting 'please' in the middle, then you don't need the commas.

    Could you please not smoke?

    Re: Could you not

May I ask you not TO smoke?

I believe TO is needed here, right?

    Many thanks.

I think it is right, but I am not a teacher.

    Re: Could you not

Is there a reason why you're not simply saying "Please don't smoke/shout"?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: Could you not

Because I'm not in a position to say that, I think. I can only ask nicely.
