    Everyone was going

    Everyone was going to attend the conference.

    Why can't we use "were" in stead of "was"? Is "everyone" singular or plural?

    "Everyone was" is correct. On that basis, you can work out whether "everyone" is singular or plural.
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
