    perfunctory vs. skindeep

    For example, their friendship is "perfunctory" or "skindeep".
    Are they both correct? If so, which one is more common in colloquial AmE?

    Perfunctory is not correct. "Superficial" would be best. "Casual," maybe. "Skin deep" is two words.
