    Question Meaning of Stretch

As I stretch, yawn, look out of the window and enjoy the view of the clearing sky......

Here can i begin the sentence with "I stretched" instead of "As I stretch" and what makes difference?

You would have to change the other verbs into the past simple too.

I stretched, yawned, looked out of the window and enjoyed the view of the clearing sky, ... etc.
