Drill commands

Hello!

Can anybody please help. I need to translate from Russian two military drill commands:

1. When the soldiers are ordered to stand in a line in the order of their height - i.e. the tallest one first and the lowest one last.

2. When the soldiers are already standing in a line and they are ordered to count themselves, i.e. the first in the line says, 'First,' the second says, 'Second,' etc. until the last one says, for example, 'Thirty second.'

How are these commands called in English and how does the commander (officer) say them?

I've never served in the military, so I'm not authority on the subject. Perhaps someone who has served in the military can provide more definitive answers.

Remember, though, that the commands in English may not necessarily be standardized between all English-speaking military forces - even the Wikipedia entry for drill commands references this.


1. - I don't know what this phrase might be.
2. - In the American military, this is referring to as 'counting off'. I believe the command is 'Count Off'.

I believe the first one is "Line up" but I'm not totally sure.

This site gives American and Canadian commands, but it doesn't list standing in order of height.

The first command is called, "Attention!"
The second is," Count off!"

I am neither a teacher nor native speaker, but I think these two commands correspond closely to the Russian.

As I understand, there is no such command in the British or US Army. Lining up in order of height was usually mostly in the former socialist countries. The only command which could correspond Russian is "Attention.

There is indeed no command to line up by height.
"Fall in!" is the command to get into formation (not "Attention!") so you could say "Fall in by height" I suppose.
