    What I got and what they gave me

    I'm explaining myself to a clerk at the Courthouse and I say:

    Yes, those documents are what I got from the DMV.

    vs

    Yes, those documents are what the DMV gave me.

    Are both okay and mean the same thing?

    If you're giving the documents to the clerk, these documents would work better.
