    either... or... Part II

    Can one say
    a. In their world, everything is either blue or green.
    b. In their world, either everything is blue or green.

    ?

My feeling is that there is a difference in the meanings. (a) is telling us that there are two colors in their world, and (b) is telling us that there is only one color in their world, which could be either blue or green.

    Is that right?

    Many thanks.

    Re: either... or... Part II

    I find b completely unnatural.

I agree. I somehow missed the (what should have been obvious) error. I have deleted my incorrect response. My apologies for any confusion caused.

I would replace 'either everything' with 'all', but I am not a teacher.
