Need an explanation of word's meaning for poem translation

My name is Alex, I was translating a poem from English into Russian but got mixed up with meanings of the words. I would be grateful if you could look into it and give me your advice:

    Piece from the poem:
I consult a schedule; the names of the towns have been
replaced by the names of people who have been quite close to me. Shall I go to A,
return to B, change at X?
Yes, of course I'll change at X. Provided I don't miss the connection with boredom!

I can't quite undesrtand in what meaning is the verb "Change" used here. I have two options: he is either talking about some personal changes or about changing his clothes. But these options seem to be inappropriate in this context.

Could you please share your opinion with me?

    Many thanks in advance.

Re: Need an explanation of word's meaning for poem translation

    Welcome to the forum Alex.

He is talking about it in terms one might use about a journey by train, bus, or plane.

For example I might say to someone, "I take the 07:30 train to Swansea, where I change [trains] to catch the train to London".

In this context, the train / plane / bus you are trying to catch is known as "the connection". Hence the reference to "the connection with boredom".

E.g. "We'd better hurry up or we'll miss our connection", might be heard on a railway platform as two people hurry past having got off one train while they are rushing to catch their next one.

    Usage A2 Verb (Transport):
    (BrE first language speaker.)

Or you could use return to B, changing at X.
