    Meaning of "The Hill"

    Hi everyone!

I know that "The Hill" refers to "Capitol Hill". I wonder if it's also used to refer to a senator or senators?

    Thanks!

No, it's only a location, not a person.

Unless of course the legislator's last name happens to be Hill, although you wouldn't use an article.

    Re: Meaning of "The Hill"

    Thanks Skrej!

I'm trying to figure out what "watch the hill fall in line" means in this sentence:

"I kind of wish I was out there, cash in a few favors, watch the hill fall in line."

I guess "watch the hill fall in line" means "a senator (or "senators") agrees to help", but since that "the Hill" only refers to a location, I have no idea what it means now. Could you help, please?

"Watch the hill fall in line" means watch Congress go along.

    Re: Meaning of "The Hill"

In that sense, it does refer to the people who form Congress.

It's used in the collective only, though. Not individual Senators or Representatives.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Meaning of "The Hill"

"The Hill" refers to Congress/legistlative branch (House and Senate) in the same way "The White House" refers to the President/executive branch
