online Tesol certificate course

I am planning to take an online Tesol certificate course. I have read the information about the courses organised by LTTC and Intersol. Can someone give me suggestion and advice in picking a good one.

If you are planning a serious career in TEFL/TESOL, then you need to work for a certificate (online or otherwise) that has at least 100 hours of input and at least six hours of observed teaching. Certificates awarded without observed teaching are not worth the paper they are printed on in reputable schools.

It does depend on what you want the qualification for. Many schools won't look at online certificates. However, if you just need a piece of paper to wave, then one might be enough for some places.

I am always surprised about these discussions of TESOL qualifications. I never had one, and was never asked for one. The only jobs I applied for in the area, back in the old days, required a university degree, without any TESOL training. Aren't there plenty of places that still think it's a minor point?

If you look at the ads on tefl.com, you will see that most ask for a CELTA or Trinity Dip or equivalent Things have changed since the 1960s and 1970s when I first dabbled in the field. I haven't come across many decent schools in the last twenty years that will take people without a qualification - unless they have a lot of experience, and can provide good references,
