    Spammers

I wonder if the site offers moderators the functionality to erase deleted threads. I say this in relation to the spate of spam threads we've been seeing for a while on the forum.

The point is that if a deleted spam thread remains visible, it takes up valuable screen area, makes the site look ungainly and can still get the advertised spam message across-- I note that "clever" spammers include the website address in the thread title.

I think most of the deleted spam threads have been erased. It is a good thing.

    Re: Spammers

There is a slight glitch I noticed today. If a moderator simply deletes the threads as spam (rather than using our very funky "Spam-o-matic" function), those posts remain on the pages but show as deleted. Even if another moderator then tries to Spam-o-matic them, it makes no difference - they still show up. If the first moderator to get to them uses the Spam-o-matic facility and chooses "Delete permanently", they vanish completely immediately.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

We need a serious Spam-o-matic cleanup in the General Language Discussion Forum.

It does, and most of it goes that way, but occasionally the wrong box gets ticked and they aren't wiped off the face of the earth, merely killed. When this happens, we can still retroactively plough salt into the earth.

We need a cleanup in the English Idioms and Sayings Forum. Rover needs to use the Spam-o-matic function.

I say, this has a properly visceral sentiment to it. I wholly approve.

Sometimes, merely isn't enough; you need a good unhealthy dose of , and damn the ammo costs.
