What can we get tripped on here?

    Hello,

I happened to see these on the sidewalk this morning. I almost got tripped on one of them. They could have been three posts that were cut some time ago, with only the concrete base left there. I wonder if there is a word to describe such things in such a shape as an obstacle whatever they are made of, concrete, or simply hard soil.

In my language, when we see obstacles coming in such shape, we would say they are "bumps" or "swellings".

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Where I come from, in general terms, we would probably call things like that "small lumps", "small bumps", or even just "lumps" or "bumps". If necessary, you would then go on to explain to someone how they'd been caused.

I have also heard them called "small humps" as well, and in my dialect, even "small mumps".

You could trip on them. Not "get tripped." They aren't active.

They're bumps or lumps. Really, stumps as well.

In America, we'd call them "lawsuits waiting to happen". I'm no fan of the American propensity to sue, but jeeesh, that kind of carelessness just practically begs for somebody to get hurt and sue.

I'm not really sure what to call them, aside from some profane terms. That last one (furthest back) I'd probably refer to as a pile. The other two were piles as well, they've just already broken up some.

    Mounds, maybe?

It looks to me like they had some metal poles stuck into the ground and then cemented into place (the mound). Then, they removed the poles by cutting them off.

And then maybe banged the heck out of the exposed edge so it became blunt and not sharp.
