    colon

    Dear teachers

I wonder if anyone could help me figure out the point. I am a bit befuddled with this case.

"Online sources reveal that the list is a hoax: it originated in 1996 from a different author."

The text including the sentence was followed by a true false question as "True or False: The list was actually written in 1996."

Does it mean that the act of writing the list in 1996 is a hoax? Is the second sentence a quotation?

    Thanks.

    Re: colon

The list was actually written in 1996. Where did you find this text?
