Does just saying "I work in industry" make sense?

    Dear all,

If I say, "I work in industry", doest it mean I work in the manufacturing industry?

The word "industry" sometimes seems to mean the manufacturing industry.
However, it is also used to refer to particular fields of business, such as "the IT industry", "the financila industry", etc. Is it better to say "I work in the manufacturing industry" for clarification?

    Thank you!

    OP

    Yes.

It clarifies things even more if you say, for example "I work in the aircraft industry".

Not necessarily. It just means that you work in the practical/applied (not the academic or theoretical) sector in your profession.
