    Who or Whom

    Hi

I am writing a letter and struggling to construct the sentence. My question is: do I need to replace 'who' with 'whom'?

"The response column refers to patients who have contacted us as a result of our correspondence and have arranged an appointment."

Is 'correspondence' okay to write when referring to just one letter, as oppose to multiple letters?

    Many thanks

    Re: Who or Whom

'Whom' (object form) would be incorrect in that sentence. it needs the subject form 'who'.

    Re: Who or Whom

I do not understand the sentence.
    What is response column?
How does it 'refer to patients'?
    Who have arranged an appointment?
    I am not a teacher.

    Re: Who or Whom

I assume you are referring to a spreadsheet or database of some sort?
It's perfectly understandable. Your organization sent out a letter and some of the person who received it contacted your organization to make an appointment as a result. This column tracks the people who are responded in such a manner.

Correspondence is fine for one letter.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Who or Whom

Would the response column shows patients who have contacted us... work better?

To me, that is the best solution here.
