    Reason for leaving

    Hi,

I would appreciate if you could go over this once

    of is a pointer.
    for is a pointer.
"of" points to a set of things.
"for" points to a purpose, a goal, a reason.

love for life.(love someone so that you could live a life of happiness.)
love of life.( life has many aspects and love for it is one of them so in turn that means it is natural to love your life)
fear for life.(being afraid that you might lose your life.)
fear of life.(life has many aspects and fear is one of them.)
peace for life.(peace required to live a life.)
peace of life.(life has many aspects and one of its quality is peace that you get from it)

Reason for leaving.(Thing that made someone leave.)
Reason of leaving. Does that mean we are talking about the part of a reason that made someone leave ?

Would you be kind enough to correct my mistakes and tell me the meaning of the reason of leaving .

    Thank you .

    Re: Reason for leaving

Some of those don't work for me. "Fear of life" would be highly unusual and would tend to suggest a psychological disorder.

I don't know what "peace of life" means.

"Reason of leaving" would be highly unusual, in my opinion.

    Re: Reason for leaving

These are paragraphs from English Preposition Explained by Seth Lindstromberg and This is what made me write those unusual sentences ,but my confusion about preposition "of " according to this book still remains.
I hope you can explain to me what Seth is getting At . Meanwhile I am trying my best to figure out.

BTW I have Posted them in reverse order,Page 3 is page 1 and page1 is 3.

    Re: Reason for leaving

of points to a set of things
This does not seem to me to be what he is saying. If you have a fear of death, then death scares you- the fear and what scares you are integrated and whole. It is a considerable leap of the imagination, to me, to say that fear of life shows that life has many aspects, of which fear is one.
