Hi,

Is ''Don't lean so much while studying'' correct? Can I also use ''bow''?

Neither of those sound like things you would do while studying. Can you describe the body position you are trying to describe using different words?

Some students, while reading a book, leans/bow so much forward.

No.

Some students, while reading a book, lean a long way forward.

Students find their own best positions for studying.

It's nobody's business but their own.

I wonder if the OP meant the position a student sits in while in class (which could also be referred to as studying). I would expect a teacher to take a dim view of students slouching in class.

I don't read "leaning" as "slouching".

Nor do I. You can lean forwards or to one side or the other. Slouching suggests sinking down in one's seat. They're all relatively unacceptable positions to sit in in class.

I mean some students who sit on their bed and place their book in front of them and then start reading it and while reading, they lean a long way forward.

So, if that is the case, who is objecting?

Nobody is objecting. I'm asking whether I have made the correct sentence. :s

Your sentence said "''Don't lean so much while studying''. That sounds like an objection to me. It is an imperative sentence, and it had to come from someone.

To me, slouching can mean either sinking down in one's chair or leaning over something. I find it just suggests a very lazy way of doing something.

"Slouch: to stand, sit, or walk with the shoulders hanging forward and the head bent slightly over so that you look tired and bored

"A couple of boys were slouched over the table reading magazines. "

It may be that MikeNY doesn't think of it that way if AmE doesn't use it quite like that.
