What does "whales and surf" means in this context?

"A boy fishing for a piece of toast in the electric toaster armed with nothing but a knife and a dangerous amount of ignorance will, doubtless, elicit a shrill command to stop, followed by some explanation, followed by a request that the boy put on some calming music involving whales and surf."

In this context, what kind of calming music could be involving whales and surf?

Thank you for your answer in advance.

Re: What does "whales and surf" means in this context?

Recordings of "whale songs" - the sounds made by whales to communicate under the sea over hundreds of miles - are used by many people for relaxation purposes. Also, the sound of surf (waves breaking on the shore) is frequently used in relaxation recordings. The rhythm of the waves breaking and then the sound of the water being pulled back out to sea over sand or shingle is very relaxing and soporific.

The suggestion is that this idiotic child, having been told off, needs to just chill out!

I doubt it. I have several apps on my phone with music/sounds to help me get to sleep. I'm pretty sure that by minutes in, I'm out like a light!

I once went whale-watching in the Hebrides and the boat's first mate recorded the sounds of whales and dolphins we encountered during our trip. He then made a cassette (yes, it was that long ago) with a combination of those sounds, various water sounds (surf, rain etc) and some gentle music, and sent each participant a copy. I still have it somewhere. I played it at bedtime for several years and it certainly did the trick.

I made it to 22 seconds before I had to turn it off. It was making me agitated!
