It looks pretty, as most of these pieces will be.

    Hello all.

I īve heard the following sentence in one video on YT and I am curious to know what "will be" at the end of the sentence means and whether tt can be replaced by going to.

    Here is the sentence:

It looks pretty, as most of these pieces will be. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSEyEEHoJoc 13:40 it may be better to start it a few seconds earlier)

P.S. I have already tried to find out whether or not I can use going to here and it was told me that "going to" doesnīt work that good as "will" does. It is because "going to" would indicate that things may change before we look at them. Can I take it as a good point why I should use will instead of going to here?

    Thank you very much!

We'll be happy to talk about how we use use 'will' and 'going to'. When I say 'we', I do not include the rather freaky woman in the video you linked us to.

Re: It looks pretty, as most of these pieces will be.

We typically use 'will' for predictions, spontaneous decisions, and promises. We generally use 'going to' for future intentions or longer-term plans. However, these aren't ironclad rules.

In the case of the video, she's stating that most of the pieces coming up are decorative, not functional. It's sort of a toss-up whether you want to consider that a promise, prediction, or even just a statement of future intent, so I'd say either 'will' or 'going to' would work equally as well in this context.

Just a side note - ASMR videos are supposed to be about relaxing and zoning out, so don't be too surprised if they don't stand up to intense grammatical scrutiny. Case in point, it sounds a bit unnatural to me that she says 'It looks pretty, as most of these pieces will be'. It would be more natural to say something like "It looks pretty, as will most of these pieces', or 'it just looks pretty, as most of these others do'.

I think she was just a bit too distracted trying to focus on her ASMR voice, and slipped up on what she meant to say.

You could also just say will, rather than will be. However, if she's referring to the other pieces that are already there, do would work better for me.

    Thank you very much!

Would it be possible to say it this way too - It looks pretty, as most of these pieces are?
