    Ripe plumness

    Hello,

The text I need to help with is as follows:

Very near the final thaw of the Universe, the last of them left behind, the last three of the most perfect beings who had ever existed, stood waiting for the transitional moment. The neap tide of all time. The eternal helix sang its silent song in stone; and the glow of What Was to Come had bruised itself to a ripe plumness.

    The Weariness, Harlan Ellison, 2012

Should it not be plumpness instead of plumness?

    Thank you

    Re: Ripe plumness

It probably should, but the whole thing is a load of tosh, anyway.

    Re: Ripe plumness

At first glance it looks like a typo, but it is hard to get the meaning, so it may be an attempt to be poetic and might possibly mean that it has bruised into the colour and softness of a plum.

    Re: Ripe plumness

In that case, I would have expected plumminess, which can be found in at least one dictionary.
