she won first prizes in all competitions for having acquired - meaning

    Hello everybody!

Do the folllowing sentences mean that "From 2003 to 2007, she won first prizes in all competitions because she had acquired the highest number of assets for investment funds.?"

From 2003 to 2007, she won first prizes in all competitions for having acquired the highest number of assets for investment funds.

From 2003 to 2007, she won prizes for being the first (person) in all competitions to have acquired the highest number of assets for investment funds.)

From 2003 to 2007, she won prizes for being the first (person) in all competitions who had acquired the highest number of assets for investment funds.)

    Thank you.

Please feel free to remove the previous thread she won first prizes in all competitions for having acquired - used differently if you see fit.

Only now did I realise that it was asking you to check the sentences in the previous thread for errors - against the rules.

None of the choices you offer are any good. They are all unnatural and never heard because they are unclear in meaning. The sales people bring in assets to investment funds by selling. They get people to contribute their savings but we do not say that they are good at acquiring assets. We say they are good at sales or selling. Once that money has been acquired, other people decide what to buy with it. They also acquire assets in a sense, but we do not say they are good at acquiring assets. We say they are good at making investment decisions or choices.

In the future, JACEK1, it would be useful to number your sentences. I will refer to them as being numbered as listed.

#1 is okay, except that she won first prize. There is only one first prize, so it should be singular.

#2 and #3 are wrong because there can be a competition for the first or for the most, but not both in the same contest. Let's say that I get $100,000 in assets over a month's time, and someone else gets $110,000 over 3 months time. I ws first, but the other person has the most. Who wins?

I disagree with probus. Investment companies certainly do have people making investment decisions, but those people focus only on making the investment decisions. The company has others who 'beat the bushes' to get new people to send in their money. They are doing sales work- 'selling' the expertise of the decision makers- but sales people hate the word selling. 'Acquiring assets' means the same thing, but doesn't it sound much more elegant and civilized?

Re: she won first prizes in all competitions for having acquired - meaning

    Hello all users!

I took into account all your remarks and decided to transform them like that:

From 2003 to 2007, she won first prize in all competitions for having made investment decisions.

From 2003 to 2007, she won prize for being the first (person) in all competitions to have made investment decisions.

From 2003 to 2007, she won prize for being the first (person) in all competitions who had made investment decisions.

    Thank you.

In case they are wrong, please make some suggestions.

competitions to have made investment decisions
competitions who had made investment decisions
    They are strange competitions.

Just work on the name of the competition, e.g. competition for achieving the highest sales of investment funds.
Only you know exactly what the competition is about.

That is precisely what I said. They have people acquiring assets in the sense of deciding what to spend the investors' money on acquiring, and they have people specializing in acquiring investors's money to invest. In what sense do you disagree?
