    What did Matt Edmondson say?

Matt Edmondson on BBC is one of my favourite DJs and what I really like about him is his insanely quick speed of talking - an excellent listening practice for EFL students like me.

I watched another clip on youtube and was wondering if I got what he said:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6SiaAvbuWg

    1) Time=1:02
"We will get given a category"
It's the first time I have heard of 'get given'. I would say we will be given. But is his version grammatically correct as well or did I misheard something?

    2) Time = 1:12
"... thinks about things for too long gets faulted/voted/vaulted out of the game"

    Which's the right one?

    Thanks a lot

Re: What did Matt Edmondson say?

    Hi,

It seems no.1 is not standard English but people do say it in casual speech. I found a related thread here:

(As for no. 2, I have no idea, either.)

    Not A Teacher

I hear faulted out but it is easy for me a BrE speaker to understand it. It also fits the tennis theme of the game.

Kuai Lee is correct it is non standard but often used in casual speech.

KuaiLe, if you wish to respond to learners' questions here, you must indicate in your post that you are not a teacher. I suggest putting that phrase in your signature.

Re: What did Matt Edmondson say?

"Get given" is what you heard and it's pretty common in BrE, though I wouldn't use it in an exam situation.
"Faulted out" is what he says at 1:12 which, as MrFatso said, fits with the tennis theme. It's not a standard tennis term but it's understood within this context.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
