Be ready to tell the rules in class.

Is it a mistake to use tell without an object (it should be to tell somebody something, not just to tell (the rule)) in the following sentence:

Be ready to tell the rules from Unit 2 in class. (A teacher is talking to her students.)

How would you put it correctly?
If I were a native speaker of English, I would never shut up. :-)

    Does "recite" fit your context?

Re: Be ready to tell the rules in class.

Tz's suggestion is a good one. "Tell" is the wrong verb but not because it doesn't have an object. "Rules" is the object.
