helped me to become who I am

When I was a chiled, there was only one person who helped me to become who I am.

    Is the sentence above correct?
Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.

Re: helped me to become who I am

"Chiled" should be "child". Other than that it is OK.
