It's a very strange example to choose. Offhand, the closest I can think of to it being a suffix is in a word like hearsay, and it isn't one there. I wouldn't call it a suffix.

Please tell me if the word says is a suffix. I heard someone use this word as an example of a suffix but I didn't understand how it could be a suffix.
Just to reinforce Tdol's comment, I've never heard of it being called a suffix either.
What example did they give you?

Could it (=the suffix) be the "s" in "says"?
That seems to be stretching it a bit and is likely to confuse the OP.
an affix that follows the element to which it is added, as -ment in entertainment.
