    Commas

    Hi

I am currently brushing up on using commas and have come across the following sentence: "If the interruption comes at the beginning or the end the sentence, use only one bracketing comma." Can someone please explain what type of commas is being used in the above example? I cannot seem to match it up to a comma type.

    Many thanks

    Re: Commas

If the bracketed texts either begins or ends the sentence, then a comma is not needed there. Compare:

An accomplished marksman, John had little trouble hitting the target.

John, an accomplished marksman, had little trouble hitting the target.

If you're asking about the type of comma used in the sentence "If the interruption comes at the beginning or the end the sentence, use only one bracketing comma", what other comma types do you have to choose from?
