    the pornographic = pornography?

Hollywood may still balk at showing a penis, never mind a slightly tumescent one, but it also has developed a fascination with the pornographic.

What does the pornographic mean? Is it synonymous with pornography?

Well, it is not a synonym because he first is an adjective and the second is a noun. But they are in the same ballpark.

What's the difference in meaning between n and the + adj?
The blind is different from blindness. Does the pornographic refer to pornographic people?

No, it refers to all things pertaining to pornography.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

Pornography refers to obscene writings, drawings, photographs, or the like, especially those having little or no artistic merit.

Pornography and the pornographic have almost the same meaning!

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    Great question, Sitifan, as usual.

Look at this quotation that I found in Google "books":

"There is, at the very least, a productive dialectical relationship among the mythological, the pornographic, and the fantastic."

-- N.J. Purcell, Violence and the Pornographic Imaginary (2012).

    *****

    A thought of mine:

Does the above quotation have a somewhat different meaning from "There is, at the very least, a productive dialectical relationship among mythology, pornography, and fantasy"?

I get the feeling that it may, but I know nothing about semantics, so I cannot put my finger on it.

If so, I think pornographic dreams are not pornography, but I am not a teacher.

With pornography would work in that sentence.

    Re: the pornographic = pornography?

Could that be a difference between the pornographic and pornography?
