    Post Was or were

    Hi everybody. In the next sentence, is it was or were the correct word?

    In fact, it was because he had studied Economy that he was able to get that job, since they were looking for someone who was/were well versed in those subjects.

    I think it is because I speak Spanish and we use the subjunctive in those situations. Silly mistake.
