Hi everyone! Whenever I need to use an idiom which means "to work very hard", I always use "work your tail off". But today I watched a movie and the character said: "You shouldn't work yourself to the bones". The problem was when I look for it in the dictionary, I could only find: "work your fingers to the bones" and if I look for it on the Internet, there are very few sources, mostly not very reliable, mentioning this idiom. So I am wondering do you native speakers use this phrase or "work your fingers to the bones". Thanks so much :)

I wouldn't use it. I would use work your fingers to the bone (not bones).
