    Correct grammar with IF

I want to talk about something that i was going to do,but finally i didn't.

This is about refusing a job offer.

    Can i say,

"If i accepted that job ,i would have been doing something out of my field of study".

I've been struggling with using 'IF ' in sentences.

    Re: Correct grammar with IF

The sentence should begin with "If I had accepted that job,". No space after "job". There should be a space after "to do,".

You have to capitalize the pronoun "I" every time you use it. I would change "out" to "outside".

It refers to the present instead of the past. For details, see www.perfect-english-grammar.com/second-conditional.html

    Re: Correct grammar with IF

That's correct, Matthew. That is why it doesn't fit with "would have been doing".

    Re: Correct grammar with IF

You could begin with "If I accepted that job", but would then need to continue with "I would be doing something ...". That sentence refers to a future hypothetical situation.
