Question What does it mean overtake? Can i use that word while i explain a graph?

    Hi,

I am confused a little bit about the meaning of overtake. There is one graph below that and in this case, as you see the consumption of low fat and reduced spreads which is red color became bigger than the others after 2001. At this breaking point its value passed to the others and i want to use one word to explain this situation.Hence i think that i can use overtook and the sentence will be like that:
The amount of consumption on low fat and reduced spreads overtook to the others in 2000s.
Is there any mistake in this sentence and to explain this event overtake is ok to use or is there any word to explain to this?

    Thank you.

The consumption of low fat and reduced spreads surpassed the others in the 2000s.
