Hi everyone, I understand that if the L sound comes after a vowel or dipthongit is a dark sound and if the L sound is before a vowel or dipthong in a syllable, it will be a light L sound. But what about the word "allow" are both Ls dark or are they both light or is the first one light and the second L dark?

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you!

Am I correct to say that it's not two letters, but the one sound that I should be thinking about? So "allow" is dark L.

'Allow' has two syllables, /əˈlaʊ/, so the L is clear (or light) as it is the first sound of the second syllable.

Edit: Cross-posted with Piscean. We seem to be in agreement.
