    as much....as

In my opinion, for the underlined sentence, the appointment of judges in Washington is more successful. It is because they are chosen on the basis of their professional legal experiences granted in practising as well as profound analysis and insight in this area as both abilities are on the same distinctive level, when comparing the appointment procedure in UK.

Please advise your notions and whether or not my interpretation is right.

"During the last Parliament, powerful voices, including William Hague's, were raised in favour of the scrutiny of judicial nominees by Member of Parliament. This would politicise the judiciary. Supreme Court justices in Washington have great distinction but their appointment owes as much to their views as to their qualities"....extracted from Micheal Beloff QC in the Oberserver (15th June 2003) - "A Legal Step That had To Be Taken"

    Re: as much....as

Supreme Court justices are indeed chosen by the President, but they must be approved by our Senate, so the American process is very politicized.

Even without the Senate, the process would be politicized. The President is a political animal.
