Though grades are a convenient way to assess students, they are by no means a scientific one. Since there are individual differences among students, there should be differentiated instructions and multiple assessments. Thus, the cognitive maturity of students should be one factor to be considered. We should not determine whether a student gets high achieving or not simply by grades. Some students study hard but obtain low grades in the test, which frustrate their confidence in study. Their cognitive maturity in learning has not developed completely, and they thereby cannot totally acquire their study materials. Therefore, grades are not a unique standard to evaluate students, but assessing them by multiple assessments such as class discussions, group activities, or performance assessment.
