    Will? Would?

    Anyone have any preference for either “will” or “would” in the following?

    1. Both the linguistic and the archeological evidence suggest that the distance between group 1 and group 2 WILL affect the extent of language change.

    2. Both the linguistic and the archeological evidence suggest that the distance between group 1 and group 2 WOULD affect the extent of language change.
